Compound is the budgeting app for families who want to see where their money goes, build a plan that fits real life, and have a coach in their corner if they want one. The app is built around three ideas:
- One place for your money. Connect your bank accounts and your day-to-day picture stays current automatically.
- A plan that survives contact with reality. Categories, rules, goals, and budgets that adjust month over month.
- Optional coaching. Connect a financial coach who can see your budget and help you stay on track. You stay in control of access at all times.
Your First 15 Minutes
- Finish the onboarding wizard — it sets your starting income and household size.
- Connect a bank account through Plaid so your transactions start syncing.
- Open the Transactions page, scan the last few weeks, and confirm the auto-categorization looks right. Anything that landed in the wrong bucket can be fixed with a click.
- Set up auto-categorization rules from Settings → Rules. One rule (e.g., “Trader Joe's” → Groceries) saves you minutes every month.
- Build your first budget from the Budget tab. Most people start with last month's actual spending as the baseline, then tighten one or two categories.
When something doesn't feel right, the fastest path to an answer is the search bar at the top of any portal page — it covers your transactions and accounts. For help with the app itself, browse the categories on the left of this page or get in touch.
